Role Overview

The Assistant Manager supports the execution of the Writing Segment’s annual sales and profit plans. This role partners closely with Sales, Marketing, and Finance teams to help bring segment and customer strategies to life. The Assistant Manager contributes to market insights, customer planning, and sales execution, while developing strong commercial fundamentals.

This is a hands-on, early-career role ideal for someone looking to grow in commercial strategy within a CPG environment.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Business Planning Support:

  • Supports the execution of the Segment’s 3-year strategy and annual brand plans.
  • Analyzes customer strategies, financial reports, and market data to identify growth opportunities.
  • Assists in developing Category Playbooks and DSMP tactics.
  • Helps prepare materials for Annual Planning with Segment Sales, aligned to the Pan Newell calendar.
  • Supports commercial planning initiatives, including innovation launches and key segment priorities.
  • Tracks competitive activity and summarizes key market and industry trends.

 

 

Sales Execution & Performance Support:

  • Supports day-to-day execution of the Segment business plan.
  • Assists in tracking progress against sales goals, risks, and opportunities.
  • Helps execute DSMP objectives across channels and customers.
  • Supports assortment planning by helping analyze product performance and customer needs.
  • Assists with shelf strategy and merchandising standards for in-store and online environments.
  • Partners with Brand Marketing and Finance to support pricing and promotional analysis.
  • Helps with planning and execution of key seasonal periods (e.g., Back-to-School, Micro-Seasons).
  • Assists with demand forecasting inputs and preparation for monthly S&OP reviews.
  • Helps prepare materials for Monthly Business Reviews as needed.

 

 

Customer Strategy & Sales Enablement:

  • Supports preparation for customer meetings and negotiations by gathering data and insights.
  • Assists in the development of sales stories and presentations for key segment initiatives.
  • Helps ensure customer-facing materials are accurate, clear, and aligned to strategy.

 

 

Key Skills & Capabilities:

  • Foundational financial acumen with interest in learning P&L and forecast management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into basic insights.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Marketing, Finance, and other teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Interest in brand, category, and customer strategy within retail and CPG.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in sales,  sales support, market planning, brand, category, or analytics roles.
  • Exposure to CPG, durable goods, or retail environments preferred.
  • Experience or coursework involving data analysis, POS data, or business reporting is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a matrixed organization.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%.
