Position Summary

 

The Analyst, Corporate Strategy will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of Newell Brands.  This role involves working on the development and ongoing management of strategies that deliver value and support growth ambitions.  Reporting to the Sr Manager of Strategy, you will assist in strategic thought partnership across business segments and functions including, but not limited to, Sales, Marketing, Finance, R&D, Design, and Legal.  Given the high visibility of this role, the candidate must be comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.

A successful candidate will possess deep analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to work on complex projects in a fast-paced environment.  You will be responsible for contributing to executive-level presentations that synthesize complex information and data to develop strategic insights and recommendations, and for managing components of the corresponding project work.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Data and qualitative analysis: Perform analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to uncover key insights and trends. Pressure test sources, sense check analyses, and identify workarounds when perfect data is unavailable.
  • Problem-Solving: Build well organized fact bases to support decision making. Develop hypotheses to address complex strategic questions. Identify risks and proactively escalate challenges to ensure impactful outcomes. 
  • Storytelling and visual communication: Distill complex information and data into clear and compelling narratives and communicate insights and recommendations verbally and through visually appealing presentations. 
  • Agile self-starter mentality: Ability to work with speed and agility to meet tight deadlines, work independently and demonstrate resilience and agility in ambiguous situations to deliver impactful results.
  • Research: Perform in-depth research using a variety of internal and external sources to ensure that decision-makers have sufficient data to effectively answer questions. This includes but is not limited to analyzing market trends, consumer behaviors, industry dynamics, competitors’ strategies, product portfolio, market position, and financial performance.
  • Communication and stakeholder engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders at all levelsVerbally convey recommendations and provide regular project updates.
  • Project management: Demonstrate the critical components of basic project management such as scope, timelines, and meeting recaps.
  • Strategic collaboration: Collaborate with various cross-functional partners.  Participate in conversations that provoke critical thinking and drive deeper understanding of strategic challenges and opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously refine and improve frameworks, methodologies, and processes based on feedback and evolving needs.
  • Financial Literacy: Ability to analyze financial documents and understanding of P&L components, levers, and drivers.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1+ years of experience in strategy, analytics, or finance related roles.
  • Basic project management experience such as scoping projects, developing timelines, providing meeting recaps, and communicating project updates.
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Involvement of all phases of a project: initiation, plan, execution, and monitoring
  • Skilled in interpreting data and qualitative research and coalescing disparate information sources into an integrated “answer” for the issues at hand.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Must be highly motivated, eager to learn, with the ability to devise an effective solution in unstructured situations.
