Position Summary:
The Associate Strategy Manager will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of Newell Brands. This role involves working on the development and ongoing management of strategies that deliver value and support growth ambitions, including embedding AI across initiatives to strengthen capabilities and accelerate competitive advantage. You will assist in strategic thought partnership across functions including, but not limited to, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Brand, Consumer & Shopper Insights, R&D, Design, and Legal. Given the high visibility of this role, the candidate must be comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
A successful candidate will possess deep analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to work on complex projects in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for developing executive-level presentations that synthesize complex information and data to develop strategic insights and recommendations, and for managing the corresponding project work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Problem-Solving: Develop hypothesis-driven work plans to address complex strategic questions. Support problem-solving through strategic framing, root cause identification, and conducting ad-hoc analyses to test hypotheses. Identify risks, highlight mitigation tactics, and proactively manage challenges to ensure impactful outcomes.
- Data and qualitative analysis: Perform advanced analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, leveraging emerging tools including AI where appropriate, to uncover key insights and trends.
- Storytelling and visual communication: Distill complex information and data into clear and compelling narratives and communicate insights and recommendations verbally and through visually appealing presentations.
- Agile self-starter mentality: Ability to work with speed and agility to meet tight deadlines, work independently with minimal direction, and demonstrate resilience and agility in ambiguous situations to deliver impactful results.
- Research: Perform in-depth research using a variety of internal and external sources to ensure that decision-makers have sufficient data to effectively answer questions. This includes but is not limited to analyzing market trends, consumer behaviors, industry dynamics, competitors’ strategies, product portfolio, market position, and financial performance.
- Communication and stakeholder engagement: Cultivate strong relationships stakeholders at all levels. Verbally convey recommendations, effectively manage expectations of key stakeholders, and provide regular project status updates.
- Strategic collaboration and question facilitation: Collaborate with various cross-functional partners, professionally challenge current and/or traditional ways of thinking and lead new ways/approaches. Facilitate questions that provoke critical thinking and drive deeper understanding of strategic challenges and opportunities.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously refine and improve frameworks, methodologies, and processes based on feedback and evolving needs.
- Financial Models - Build basic financial models (or interest in learning) to understand impacts, quantify opportunities, and develop recommendations/case for change
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 4+ years of experience in a fast-paced environment including 1 year of relevant strategy or consulting experience. Experience with consumer products preferred, but not required.
- Project management experience, including i) sole ownership of distinct work streams ii) ability to coordinate work across various levels of the organization iii) problem-solve roadblocks
- Involvement of all phases of a project: initiation, plan, execution, and monitoring
- Skilled in interpreting other forms of advanced research and coalescing disparate information sources into an integrated “answer” for the issues at hand.
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Must be highly motivated, eager to learn, with the ability to devise an effective solution in unstructured situations.
- High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, along with demonstrated proficiency in AI tools to enhance analysis, synthesis, and productivity.
