Associate Manager, Shopper Insights

Job Summary

Consumer & Shopper Insights (CSI) is a strategic business partner that works cross-functionally to enable fact-based decision making and commercial success. CSI efforts are grounded in a deep understanding of consumers, shoppers, customers, and retail dynamics.

 

The Associate Manager, Shopper Insights role will support Shopper Insights initiatives across Newell's portfolio of brands, categories, and retail customers. Working closely with other Shopper Insights team members and sales, this role will execute research, synthesize insights, and develop customer-ready stories that support line reviews, innovation selling, category growth opportunities, and other strategic retailer engagements.

 

Key Responsibilities

Shopper & Customer Insights

  • Design and execute primary shopper research using qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g., shopper journeys, shop-alongs, concept testing, decision trees, DIY surveys) across a broad range of product categories, brands, and retail customers.
  • Lead end-to-end project management for insight initiatives across full-service and DIY research approaches, including research design, vendor management, budgets, timelines, and execution.
  • Synthesize primary research, syndicated data, and secondary sources into clear, compelling insights and actionable customer-ready stories that support category growth, assortment decisions, and retailer engagements.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations with clarity and confidence to a range of stakeholders within sales, including account managers and category managers.
  • Build concise and visually compelling PowerPoint presentations that translate complex data into clear insights, recommendations, and customer-ready selling stories.

 

Insight Tools & Capability Support

  • Enable self-serve insights through clear documentation, templates, and education for sales and category partners.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce duplication and increase efficiency by leveraging shared insights, platforms, and best practices.
  • Develop expertise in shopper, syndicated, and retailer data platforms and support internal teams in applying insights consistently and effectively.
  • Leverage emerging AI-enabled tools and technologies to enhance research execution, insight generation, synthesis, and storytelling while maintaining research rigor and quality standards.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in shopper insights, consumer insights, or a related role supporting sales or commercial teams
  • Client-side work in consumer products/durables preferred
  • Ability to work across multiple categories, brands, and retail customers simultaneously, balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience directly conducting quantitative and qualitative research studies, including DIY survey platforms
  • Track record of translating business questions into effective survey design and questionnaires
  • Familiarity with syndicated data sources (e.g., IRI, Nielsen, NPD, Numerator) and retailer data platforms
  • Experience tailoring communications to different audiences and communicating to stakeholders: sales leadership, cross-functional team members, agency and retail partners, etc.
  • Strong analytical, storytelling, and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize multiple data sources into clear business implications and recommendations. Genuine respect for and curiosity about consumers, shoppers, and end users
  • Experience with visualization or BI tools, and AI tools that support research, analysis, and insight development, a plus.
  • Curious, proactive, and energized by building scalable tools and ways of working
