Newell is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to join our Employee Relations COE as Director, Employee Relations – Global Supply Chain. In this newly developed role, you will help maintain a positive workplace culture by creating and leading Newell’s labor relations and employee relations strategy for Global Supply Chain. This role involves close collaboration with the Vice President, Human Resources - Supply Chain and involves regular engagement with internal and external counsel to ensure compliance with relevant laws. Responsibilities: 

  • Employee Relations Counseling. Proactively provide advice and support to business partners, employees and HR colleagues on a broad range of ER issues in Supply Chain including performance coaching, positive workplace relations and policy interpretations
  • Labor Relations. Lead Newell’s engagement with union representatives and management to develop proactive labor relations strategies, address labor concerns, ensure compliance with laws, interpret collective bargaining agreements and participate in contract negotiations
  • Grievance Management: Manage the grievance process including facilitating meetings between employees and management and providing recommendations for resolution
  • Investigations. Conduct thorough and confidential internal investigations into employee workplace conduct and policy violations, ensuring consistent documentation of findings, compliance with privacy laws and recommendation of appropriate corrective action
  • Policy Development Interpretation. Work closely with colleagues in Legal to interpret and apply company policies and labor and employment laws to manage risk and ensure legal compliance while promoting fair and consistent treatment of all employees 
  • Training and Development. Develop and deliver training for managers and employees on relevant ER and labor relations topics 
  • Performance Management Support. Partner with managers to support employee performance, provide performance coaching, develop improvement plans, address performance concerns and create environments that encourage strong performance 
  • Org Structure Support. Work closely with colleagues in HR and Legal on the employee relations aspect of organizational change initiatives, including workforce restructurings, reorganizations and acquisitions, consulting with employee representative bodies as required
  • Reporting and Analytics. Effectively use ER technology and collaborate with Ethics and Compliance and HR Operations to track employee and labor relations data, identify trends and communicate with management for continuous improvement to inform decision-making and resource allocation
  • Team Collaboration. Partner with other COEs such as Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition and Talent Development and Management on company-wide initiatives
  • Additional Opportunities. Assist with projects and initiatives and perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Law degree or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
  • Minimum ten years of proven experience in employee relations, labor relations and union negotiations, preferably in a supply chain or manufacturing setting
  • Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, project management and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to conduct confidential investigations and maintain discretion
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and/or accomplish work through others

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR or SPHR)
  • Experience with employee relations software
