Job Summary:

 

The role of Market Development & Planning Manager is to help drive market share and profit growth through development of go-to-market strategies for brand that are optimized across channels and customers. This individual collaborates with brand marketing, customer planning and sales to improve cross channel assortment, pricing strategy, innovation pipeline and new business development.

 

Role / Purpose:

 

  • A Segment expert that serves as a unified voice of the segment/brand to the customer team and a unified voice of the customer/customer team to the segment/brand.
  • Interprets actionable, integrated category, consumer, shopper market insights
  • Translates market knowledge and insights to drive Newell segment/brand and retail customer growth
  • Facilitates/creates channel-tailored category plans, supporting segment/brand initiatives, DSMP blueprints and Newell financial and DSMP targets
  • Ongoing monitoring and refining of category plans, initiatives & targets

 

MD&P Leader Leads:

 

  • GTM Strategy - setting an actionable vision to drive category consumption through sustainable / increased purchases of Newell Brands
  • Guides the development of winning selling stories for top customers leveraging deep category, brand, consumer and shopper understanding
  • Integrates MD&P with the Enablement Teams
  • Leverage learnings from team counterparts (e.g. Category Development, CSI, RGM, Sales Ops etc.) to deliver impactful guidance to the  brand and sales team.
  • Serves as the expert in the brand / segment to the Customer Team
  • Partners with Finance to develop Financial Projections and Brand Guardrails
  • Brand Leadership Team representative (as appropriate)

 

Customer Engagements:

 

  • Key contributor and co-representative of the Segment / Brand with top customers representing consumer / shopper insights and data to make recommendations
  • Enables successful selling engagements by supporting Sales led customer meetings (e.g. business reviews, line reviews, product/segment deep dives, shopper insights, etc.)

 

Key Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Expert in the brand and category
  • Deeply understands the role of the brand and category for each retailer
  • Understand & represents top retailer dynamics and considerations
  • Story telling – Ability to partner with Category Development to develop national selling stories
  • Category knowledge and ability to translate consumer & shopper insights into action plans for retailer
  • Proficiency in data analysis- ability to analyze market and category data and identify key opportunities

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Liaison between Sales and Brand to build strategies to win
  • Annual Category Management Plan and corresponding Selling Story
    • Channel & Customer Specific Strategy Creation & Implementation
    • Develop and implement go-to-market strategies including product pricing, new product launches and promotional activities.
    • Connects with RGM Function for Investment Choices
  • Creates DSMP Playbooks (Perfect Omni Store)
    • Sets & Communicates DSMP Targets
    • Partners with Customer Team on Customer Specific Opportunities (when needed)
  • Translates Brand Innovation into Customer Strategies for Growth
  • Feeds All Customer & Innovation Opportunities to Brand Teams as the voice of the customer
  • DSMP Tracking to refine the Plan and Investments as needed
  • S&OP Forecasting & Optimization across Category of responsibility

 

Key Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree; required
  • 5+ years of experience with a CPG or durable company, ideally in channel management, brand management, insights, or sales, preferably with retail/ mass channel
  • Demonstrated experience managing a minimum or $10-20M book of business
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization with demonstrated ability to partner with multiple teams to achieve results.
  • US retail customer knowledge
  • Experience working with syndicated POS and Panel Data
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to influence different cross functional partners
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate \ manage risk and effectively manage change
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
