Senior Manager, Sales Process & AI Capabilities

Overview

 

The Senior Manager, Customer Planning & AI Capability Development plays a critical role in advancing Newell’s customer planning excellence across all segments and customers. Reporting to the Senior Director, [Sales Strategy & Capabilities / Category Development], this role supports the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of standards, processes, and tools that enable customer-facing excellence in line reviews, joint business planning, and innovation sell-in. Success requires not only deep commercial capability-building expertise but also the ability to influence cross-functional partners, drive adoption in the field, and embed AI-enabled workflows that improve speed, quality, and consistency.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Acts as a strategic capability partner to Segment, Market Development & Planning, and Sales leaders to establish best-in-class customer planning standards, improve execution quality, and accelerate performance across priority retail accounts.

 

  1. Lead the central customer planning capability effort in delivering standards, processes, and tools as listed below (but not limited to):
  • Establish best-in-class line review/category review standards, including required content modules, templates, and quality checkpoints that translate insights into customer-ready recommendations and action plans.
  • Build and continuously improve a JBP operating system, including planning templates, meeting rhythms, scorecards, governance, and enablement that strengthen consistency and execution across teams and accounts.
  • Develop and maintain reusable libraries (exemplars, modules, checklists, and guidance) to reduce rework, improve consistency, and increase field adoption.
  • Establish training, reinforcement, and adoption mechanisms (workshops, office hours, coaching, feedback loops) across HQ and field Sales & Category Management teams.

 

 

  1. Lead the design and deployment of AI-enabled tools and workflows that strengthen customer planning effectiveness:
  • Identify, scope, and prioritize high-value AI use cases within line reviews, JBPs, and innovation summit workflows (e.g., insight synthesis, story creation, customer customization, meeting prep/follow-up).
  • Create practical AI enablement assets (prompt libraries, standard work, “how-to” guidance) and drive AI fluency across Sales and Category Management.
  • Partner with Data/Tech to test and deploy workflow-embedded AI capabilities (e.g., copilots/agents, automation, template-integrated AI), ensuring readiness for scale.
  • Implement lightweight governance for customer-facing outputs (approved claims/content, versioning, traceability) to enable responsible, retailer-safe AI adoption.
 

Key Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, economics, analytics, or related field required; MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in CPG commercial roles with demonstrated impact (e.g., Sales Strategy, Commercial Excellence, Category Leadership, Customer Strategy, Sales Enablement/Operations).
  • Proven success building and scaling customer planning standards and toolkits (line reviews/category reviews, JBPs, innovation selling/summits).
  • Strong customer-facing storytelling capability with a track record of translating insights into compelling narratives and actions that drive retailer alignment.
  • Demonstrated capability-building and change leadership experience (training design, adoption/reinforcement programs, cross-functional influence).
  • Practical AI fluency: ability to scope use cases, map workflows, partner with Tech/Data, and drive adoption of AI-enabled tools and behaviors.
  • Strong project planning, organizational, and communication skills; ability to present complex work in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Ability to lead through influence across functions and geographies, driving measurable outcomes under tight timeframes.

The Remote base pay range for this position is from $164,050 to $200,550. Salary will be based on prior experience related to the skills required for this position.
