Position Title: Product Development Designer (CAD) – All Segments

Location: Balneário Piçarras, SC - Híbrido

Reports to: Sr. Manager, New Product Creation (NPC) – LATAM Technology Center

The Product Development Designer (CAD) is a cross-segment technical resource responsible for creating and maintaining the 3D models, technical drawings(2D) and design data that support all new product development projects across the Outdoor & Recreation (O&R), Learning & Development (L&D) and Home & Commercial (H&C) segments. Operating within the New Product Creation(NPC) function, the Product Development Designer (CAD) transforms concepts and inputs from Product Development Specialists and Industrial Designers into detailed, manufacturable CAD models and production-ready documentation, with deep expertise in plastic part design for injection and blow molding.

This is a critical role that bridges industrial design and manufacturing. The Product Development Designer (CAD) partners closely with Industrial Design (ID) to balance aesthetics, function, manufacturability and cost, applying strong knowledge of polymeric resins, molding processes, tooling and Design For Manufacture principles to ensure that designs are both visually appealing and producible at target cost. The role works across the entire NPC portfolio and is a key enabler of fast, reliable and cost-effective product development in the region.

 Responsibilities

CAD Modeling & Technical Drawings

  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings (with GD&T) for parts and assemblies across all segments.
  • Build parametric, robust, design-intent-driven models that support downstream tooling and manufacturing.
  • Produce and control engineering drawings, BOMs and design documentation to Newell standards.
  • Manage design data, revisions and change control within PDM/PLM systems.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) – Injection & Blow Molding

  • Apply deep expertise in plastic part design for injection molding and blow molding (wall thickness, draft, ribs, bosses, parting lines, gating and ejection, shrinkage and warpage).
  • Select and recommend polymeric resins based on performance, aesthetics, processability and cost.
  • Optimize parts for manufacturability, tooling feasibility and cycle time, and support mold design reviews with toolmakers.
  • Conduct DFM/DFAssembly analysis and drive design improvements that reduce cost, tooling risk and lead time.

Collaboration with Industrial Design (ID)

  • Partner with ID designers to translate aesthetic concepts and surfaces into manufacturable engineering designs.
  • Find the optimal balance between aesthetics, function, DFM and cost – protecting design intent while ensuring producibility.
  • Provide early manufacturability and cost feedback into the concept/ID phase to avoid downstream rework.
  • Maintain surface quality, fit and finish while meeting engineering, tooling and cost requirements.

Cross-Segment Project Support

  • Support all product development projects across O&R, L&D(Baby) and H&C(Kitchen) as a shared CAD resource.
  • Prioritize and manage workload across multiple concurrent projects and stakeholders.
  • Work with PDS, plant NPI, tooling and suppliers to carry design intent through to production.

Prototyping & Validation Support

  • Prepare CAD data for prototyping (3D printing, soft tooling) and support build-and-test iterations.
  • Support tolerance analysis and design verification with test and laboratory teams.
  • Incorporate learnings from prototypes and testing back into the design.

Key Deliverables:

  • 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings (SolidWorks), drawings with GD&T.
  • DFM/DFA analyses and moldability recommendations
  • Polymeric-resin and material recommendations and specifications
  • BOMs and controlled design documentation
  • Tooling-ready data packages for mold design

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist or Degree/Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Plastics/Polymer Engineering or related (with equivalent CAD design experience).
  • Proven experience as a CAD designer / design engineer for plastic consumer products.
  • Strong, hands-on proficiency with 3D/2D CAD (SolidWorks/CREO/NX): part, assembly and surface modeling, and drawings with GD&T.
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding and blow molding processes and plastic part design and resins, tryout injection tests.
  • Intermediate-level English (technical reading and cross-team communication).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Plastics/Polymer, Production or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with mold/tooling design and mold-filling simulation (e.g., Moldflow).
  • Experience across multiple product categories (outdoor, baby, small home-appliance).
  • Experience with PDM/Product Lifecycle Management (Windchill) systems and design-data management.
  • Advanced-level English and Conversational or professional Spanish.
  • Working knowledge of polymeric resins and their properties.

Skills & Abilities

  • Expert CAD and surfacing skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong Design For Manufacture(DFM) and cost mindset, able to balance aesthetics with manufacturability.
  • Strong collaboration skills, especially with industrial designers and toolmakers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities across segments.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Travel

  • Occasional travel to plants, suppliers and toolmakers as required.
