Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Job Type:  Full-Time
Location Type:  Remote
Primary Location:

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, IN

Job title: Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Chennai

Reports to: Manager, IT Systems Administration

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Schedule: Shift aligning to approximately 4–5 hours of overlap with US Central Time daily; off-hours availability required for monthly maintenance windows and semi-annual DR tests

Purpose of the Role

Newell Brands is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our Cloud Infrastructure team. This is a senior-level, hands-on role responsible for designing, securing, and operating cloud infrastructure across a multi-cloud environment that spans Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, as well as on-premises VMware ESXi infrastructure.
While Microsoft Azure is the primary platform today, this role requires a strong multi-cloud mindset and the ability to operate effectively across cloud providers as the organization's footprint evolves. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in cloud security, networking, and complex troubleshooting, and can work independently with minimal direction in a globally distributed team. This role requires a work schedule providing approximately 4–5 hours of daily overlap with US Central Time, as well as availability outside normal hours for scheduled monthly maintenance windows and semi-annual disaster recovery (DR) tests. Experience with VMware technologies, including VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), is a valued plus.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Infrastructure & Operations

  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, including compute, storage, and container platforms such as AKS and EKS
  • Maintain and optimize cloud account structures including Azure subscriptions, AWS accounts, and landing zones across providers
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates with a preference for cloud-agnostic tooling where practical
  • Implement automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, AWS CLI, and native cloud automation services to reduce manual effort and improve consistency
  • Monitor infrastructure health across cloud platforms using Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, Log Analytics, and other native tools, responding proactively to alerts and capacity trends

Cloud Security

  • Architect and enforce security controls across cloud environments in alignment with Zero Trust principles and a consistent multi-cloud security posture
  • Manage Azure Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and AWS IAM policies across cloud environments
  • Conduct security assessments and remediate findings from vulnerability scans, cloud security posture tools, and policy compliance checks
  • Manage secrets governance including Azure Key Vault and AWS Secrets Manager, encryption at rest and in transit, and key lifecycle management
  • Maintain compliance posture across regulatory and corporate policy requirements in all cloud environments

Cloud Networking

  • Design and manage virtual network topologies across Azure (VNets, hub-spoke) and AWS (VPCs, Transit Gateway) with consistent routing and segmentation standards
  • Configure and maintain cloud-native firewalls, Network Security Groups (NSGs), security groups, and DDoS protection across providers
  • Implement and operate load balancing and traffic management services including Azure Load Balancer, Application Gateway, Azure Front Door, and AWS equivalents
  • Manage Azure DNS, Private DNS Zones, AWS Route 53, and name resolution across hybrid and multi-cloud environments
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues across hybrid and multi-cloud environments including routing, connectivity, and DNS resolution failures

Troubleshooting & Incident Response

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for cloud infrastructure incidents across all platforms, driving rapid diagnosis and resolution
  • Lead post-incident reviews, document root cause analyses, and implement preventive measures
  • Use platform-native diagnostics and log analytics tools to investigate performance degradation and outages
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical infrastructure support as needed

Maintenance, DR, & Business Continuity

  • Actively participate in monthly infrastructure maintenance windows, which are scheduled outside of normal business hours
  • Support semi-annual disaster recovery (DR) tests, including failover validation, documentation, and post-test reporting
  • Contribute to DR planning and runbook development to ensure recovery procedures remain current and tested across cloud environments

On-Premises & Collaboration

  • Support VMware ESXi and on-premises virtualization environments as needed
  • Contribute to cloud adoption and migration projects, providing multi-cloud expertise during design and execution phases
  • Share technical knowledge across the team; contribute to infrastructure standards, runbooks, and architectural decision records

What You’ll Need:

Minimum:

•    6+ years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure, with strong depth in at least two major cloud platforms (Azure required; AWS strongly preferred)
•    Demonstrated expertise in cloud security fundamentals including RBAC/IAM, Zero Trust principles, secrets governance, and encryption; working knowledge of Entra ID, Conditional Access, and PIM
•    Strong cloud networking skills spanning virtual networks, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and Private DNS Zones across Azure and AWS
•    Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues across compute, storage, networking, and identity layers in a multi-cloud environment
•    Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
•    Proficiency in cloud automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and/or AWS CLI
•    Familiarity with cloud monitoring and observability tools across providers (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, AWS CloudWatch)
•    Comfortable working outside normal hours to support scheduled monthly maintenance windows and semi-annual DR tests
•    Ability to work a shift providing approximately 4–5 hours of daily overlap with US Central Time
•    Strong documentation skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
•    Business-level English proficiency (verbal and written) required
•    Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment across global time zones.

Your Advantage:

•    Cloud certifications — one or more of the following are preferred:
         -  Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)

         -  Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500)

         -  AZ-700: Designing and Implementing Microsoft Azure Networking Solutions

         -  AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional

         -  AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate or Professional

         -  AWS Certified Security – Specialty
•    Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF9) or prior VMware vSphere/ESXi administration
•    Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in a production environment
•    Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
•    Familiarity with IT service management practices (ITIL) and change management processes
