Summary:

 

The Product Safety Engineer is responsible for delivering actionable information about the consumer and quality of our brands and service to the business and is a trusted strategic business partner to minimize business risk by making recommendations for improvement and ensure the highest quality products are in the field in the hands of our consumers. 

 

Product Safety refers to the attributes and analysis of product complaints and product performance, which can contain highly sensitive information about potential adverse events or quality concern occurrences. 

 

Some travel will be expected and availability for international conference calls will be required.

 

 

 
   

Responsibilities:

 

  • Supports Legal, R&D and the overall business from a product integrity standpoint, which concerns consumer events or potential events of a sensitive nature.  
  • Critically analyze escalated events for product integrity trends, and identify potential improvement opportunities.  Manage notifications of these insights to internal business partners.
  • Benchmark adverse and product integrity issues against industry
  • Liaise between legal teams and the business to capture closed loop feedback and reporting.
  • Makes actionable recommendations based on trends, expertise/knowledge of product and external market trends and recommends process improvement opportunities
  • Work with the team to understand and implement historical best practices, design and warnings as needed, and lessons learned from various field insights
  • Challenge teams on inherently more robust designs intended to reduce consumer misuse and opportunities for manufacturing defects
  • Works on a wide range of opportunities and problems where use of creative thinking and the application of related quality and continuous improvement theories and principles is required.
  • Support Risk process and Supports Legal Resolution process
  • Plays supporting role in legal requests initiatives including:
    • Historical data collection for Legal review/adverse team review
    • Identification of key SKUS as required for incident review
    • Other ad hoc requests as required
  • Some domestic travel will be required

 

 

 
   

Qualifications:

 

  • Electrical, Mechanical, or other relevant degree
  • 2-5 years of technical experience and knowledge in related fields
  • Quality Engineering and/or R&D experience
  • High motivation and curiosity, assertiveness, flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Experience with data coordination, collection, databases
  • Experience with CRM data, Salesforce a plus
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Experience with using Business Intelligence tools (Tableau, PowerBI or Qlikview) a plus 
  • Knowledge of Consumer Products state, federal and international safety regulations a plus
  • Exposure and experience in six-sigma, lean, FMEA and team-based project management is highly desirable
  • Must be self-directed with the capability of setting direction for other not under their direct control
  • Should be result oriented, able to perform against timelines with a passion for continuous process improvement

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Consumer products industry experience.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt.
  • Manufacturing experience in countries outside of the U.S.
  • Excellent data analysis skills using MS Excel, and Access products or other data analysis tool; ERP database working knowledge desirable
