The Sourcing Engineer will work across multiple functions and collaborate with all the Newell Brands divisions as a centralized resource. He/she will develop strategies and execution for the Newell Brands’ Chemicals category. Key sourcing metrics which include Productivity, Working Capital Improvements, Lead Time, Service Level, and Quality. He/she will work in a cross-functional team environment and provide support to various management teams to deliver on the goals and metrics of Newell Brands. The position requires the technical ability to understand and develop new chemical technologies and the associated value proposition while being able to manage and execute on the commercial aspects of the development programs.
Specific Responsibilities:
-Research, identify, and qualify the best value sources of supply in conjunction with raw material vendors, manufacturing facilities, quality, and product engineering.
-Identify cost and risks at the product component level to meet all financial targets and productivity goals (i.e., 3-5% YOY productivity goals and increase DPO in accordance with working capital objectives).
-Rationalize the supplier base through the solicitation of competitive bids.
-Evaluates and utilizes internal/external technologies and partnering with key suppliers to solve complex problems which will enhance product design, performance, supply and assure best cost.
-Develop and lead implementation of commodity strategies resulting in cost savings as well as improved supplier performance that fully support current and future manufacturing / business goals.
-Support day to day activities in the following areas: Raw Material Discontinuation, NPD Activities, Quality, Manufacturing Supplier Performance Goals, and Acts as the point of accountability for escalation and arbitration for supplier related issues.
-General supplier management including communicating and resolving daily issues between internal organizations and suppliers, leading cross-functional team calls to cover open issues, actively working/monitoring quality and performance issues.
-Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as supply/demand planning, operations, engineering, marketing, quality and finance to effectively drive accurate material forecasting, purchasing, compliance and standardized processes that enable continuity of supply, reduces E&O exposure, lowers material cost and ensures alignment between sourcing strategy and overall Operating Segment objectives.
Qualifications:
-B.S./M.S. in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
-2+ years of experience in plastics, materials, or a manufacturing setting.
-Consumer products experience preferred.
-Broad knowledge of chemicals, plastic resins, colorants, and additives.
-History of working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.
-Effective planning/organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities.
-Evidence of strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills.
-Up to 25% travel is required.
