SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position is responsible for providing the leadership to administer and improve the facilities safety program while reducing the number of accidents and providing training necessary for the facility. Leadership skills are critical to involve everyone in the organization in safety from both the plant floor and management. Responsibilities will include developing and overseeing safety programs and ensuring compliance with federal & state regulatory agencies while providing any required safety or other necessary training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

- Work closely with Director of Human Resources to insure that company safety policies are current and functioning
- Develop and maintain all safety programs required by OSHA & EPA
- Provide guidance and direction to the safety team including minutes and documentation of suggestions for plant improvement
- Supervise training of personnel including all mandatory OSHA & EPA compliance training as well as necessary site, operation, and hazard specific training
- Manage worker’s injury cases with medical & production management including injury/incident investigation and analysis with development of action plans and initiatives to address accident trends
- Oversee the Emergency Response Team
- Assist in providing orientation for new employees
- Provide management with pertinent plant safety statistics (incidence/ frequency rates, worker comp statistics, etc.)
- Inspect facility on a regular basis with documentation of findings and recommendations for corrective action
- Ensure Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulatory compliance
- Perform duties in compliance with company policies and procedures
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Perform other assignments as requested or as business needs require
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in safety management with at least 5 years’ related experience. Experience in developing and writing programs as required by OSHA and EPA. Experience in conducting/supervising safety training programs for all levels. Must have knowledge of a variety of office practices and operation of office equipment, such as computers, requiring some advanced skill knowledge.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English (Spanish extremely helpful). Must be able to read maps, drawings, and layouts and well-defined instructions, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers including decimals and fractions. Must create and check reports, forms, records and comparable data where interpretation is required involving basic skills knowledge. Must be very accurate.
REASONING ABILITY:
Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where substantial standardization exists. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
