This position is responsible for the overall shift operation of the Molding area, which includes:
- Ensuring a safe work environment is maintained
- Maintaining proper staffing levels and providing adequate support and training to associates
- Monitoring and continuously improving 6S conditions on the production floor
- Meeting product quality requirements
- Driving lower cost of quality
- Monitoring production schedules and assuring that production and inventory objectives are met
- Supporting the assigned shift’s Process Technicians by performing tooling changes in conjunction with the production schedule
- Improving processing and maintenance methods to enhance production efficiency and minimize downtime
- Working closely with production, maintenance, engineering and scheduling to identify priorities and effectively coordinate molding activities
- Leading and directing the Packers and Utility Operators
Job Responsibilities
- Lead employees and maintain results by coaching, counseling and developing leadership and accountability within the molding department
- Lead, delegate problem-solving events and promote critical thinking
- Resolves maintenance and process issues by active collaboration with operations, engineering and quality
- Lead, train and coach plant employees in lean manufacturing events. Practice and maintain continuous improvement initiatives by implementing cultural change
- Prioritizes planned production activities and projects
- Maintains staff by assisting in recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees
- Develop and recommend plans for improvement
- Plan, control, and administer employee relations and staffing requirements consistent with company policies, plans, and directives
- Assist in the control of budgets, department operating expenditures, productivity and capital equipment requests
- Assure departmental employees adhere to safety standards and exhibit safe work behaviors
- Assure communication of policies, production performance, costs, and standards
- Responsible for coordinating all Writing Instruments molding activities including PM’s, TPM’s, support of Kaizen events, equipment repairs, department initiatives and work orders. Ensures scheduled compliance of above
- Responsible for keeping running tab of machine histories, current conditions to be reported to morning production meeting, including daily pass down between shifts at the 6:30 meeting
- Accountable for shift’s 6S activities
- Responsible for all process, scrap, orange tag, work order, order change, sample request, etc. data is collected and distributed as directed
- Responsible for enforcing disciplinary action up to and including associate corrective actions
- Keeps updated track of workforce workhours and daily labor reports
- Schedules and coordinates all vacation and coverage
- Follow production schedule as outlined by Master Scheduler
- Ensure Ignition is consistently accurate and up to date to support real-time decision-making and reporting
Processing
- Complete start up and first piece approval on production machines
- Maintain process on production machines throughout the production runs
- Achieve stated cycle times and cavitation levels
- Assist in developing methods for improving machine efficiency
- Assist with the development, maintenance, and refinement of process sheets for each of the products
- Support processing efforts on shift
- Assure on-shift adherence to established procedures through periodic reviews with each technician
Quality
- Ensure that products are produced in conjunction with the stated Quality standards
- Assist in the development of ideas to improve the quality level of products
- Assist in the development of countermeasures to issues causing defective product to be produced
Minimum Requirements
- Flexible to work any shift
- Communicate regularly with scheduling to ensure customer delivery priorities are met
- Must be able to work overtime on a daily/weekly basis
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Possess excellent leadership qualities
- Team player/Teamwork
- Willing and able to train, coach, mentor
- Must be willing to learn company metrics and raise business decision
- Understanding of lean, 6s and TPM
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure

- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds
- Ability to perform standing job for 12 consecutive hours
- Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach and grasp for varying periods of time during a consecutive 12-hour period
- Must be able to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Must have Process Tech experience in order to bid
- Forklift licensed
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Must work effectively in a fast-paced team environment with constant interruptions
- Must clearly understand business goals and be able to understand how they contribute to the organization’s success. Extensive short-term planning based on established and changing priorities
- Involves ongoing problem solving
- Must complete all OSHA required training
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years in a leadership position
- Experience in continuous improvement programs
