TITLE: Tool Maker

REPORTS TO:  Tool Room Supervisor

SUPERVISES:  None

JOB CLASS: Hourly

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This job requires a unique skill set; including experience working with advanced high speed and high cavitation injection molds, mechanical/ electrical trouble-shooting knowledge, machining techniques and experience with designing and implementing new mechanical designs. This person must be able to accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership of assigned tasks and explore opportunities with engineering to improve efficiencies and processes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use repair tools such as punches, files, bench stones and other abrasive products in working with high precision, high cost components as necessary to repair injection molds.
  • Set-up and use milling machine as required to:  rework damaged areas of injection molds and perform other injection mold modifications of a complex nature.
  • Disassemble, clean, evaluate and repair molds of various sizes and configurations.
  • Change mold components such as cores, core inserts, cavities and cavity inserts, cams and cam inserts on injection molds.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of machinist handbook
  • Advanced Knowledge of measuring devices used in trade
  • Flexible to work any shift.
  • Must be able to work overtime on a daily/weekly basis to support project
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to redline detail drawings and manufacture to tolerances +/-0.001
  • Proficient “CNC” milling machining operations Able to write / read “CNC” machine code
  • Good decision making abilities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and follow through with instructions.
  • Ability to work well with others- Teamwork
  • Ability to perform all duties un-supervised in a professional timely manor
  • Able to speak and understand English

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Visual aptitude – must be able to see with or without correction.
  • Communication – ability to communicate verbally or non-verbally.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to perform standing job for 10 consecutive hours.
  • Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach and grasp for varying periods of time during a consecutive 10 hour period.

 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:                                                                                                  

  • High school graduate
  • Associates Degree from two-year College or equivalent from a technical school… (Journeyman’s License)
  • At least 1 year of experience working with plastic injection molds.
  • Experience with overhead crane and forklift operation
