GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer interfaces with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to analyze root causes of quality issues and implement effective corrective actions. This role is actively involved in both sustaining production and New Product Development (NPD) activities.

 

The Quality Engineer supports NPD by leading and coordinating PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions, ensuring all documentation (including Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and capability studies) is complete, accurate, and compliant with industry standards. Additional responsibilities include examining and evaluating production processes through internal auditing; designing and installing quality control process sampling systems, procedures, and statistical techniques; and analyzing production limitations and standards. The Quality Engineer assists in formulating quality control policies and procedures and supports the development of cost-effective quality control strategies. The role also ensures adherence to OSHA, Ohio EPA, company, and departmental safety regulations and procedures.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Interface with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve quality issues using root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Performs internal audit functions of processes and systems, tracing root cause of problems to their origin and formulates a corrective action plan for process improvement.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and consistency of process control tools/techniques across the manufacturing plant to improve the cost of failure (COF).
  • Track metrics for cost of failure
  • Implement training programs for new and current quality associates at all levels
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) by coordinating and executing PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions, including all required documentation (e.g., PFMEA, Control Plan, Process Flow, MSA, capability studies).
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Supply Chain to validate and approve new parts and processes prior to production release.
  • Conduct internal quality audits to evaluate compliance with ISO standards, company policies, and customer requirements.
  • Design and implement quality control systems, sampling plans, and statistical process control (SPC) methodologies to monitor and improve product quality.
  • Analyze production processes, identify limitations, and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce defects.
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, specifications, and cost reductions efforts

 

 

CLIMATE:

Must work effectively in a fast-paced team environment with constant interruptions.  Must clearly communicate business goals so associates understand how they contribute to the organization’s success. Extensive short-term planning based on established and changing priorities.  Involves ongoing problem solving.  Some irregular hours required. 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Bachelor of Science degree required
  2. Must have a minimum of 1-3 years Quality Engineering experience
  3. Experience with Quality Defect Data
  4. Experience to include: PFMEA’s; Control Plans; Work Instructions; Process flow diagrams; Capability studies/ SPC Techniques; 8D Problem Solving Process; Gage R&R’s; Process Mapping; DOE studies
  5. Working knowledge of statistical software – JMP/Minitab
  6. Must have excellent computer skills (such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, etc)
  7. Quick decision making
  8. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

 

 

 PREFERABLE CHARACTERISTICS:

 

  • Highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with AQP/ APQP/ PPAP /SPC
  • Injection molding experience
  • Proficient in problem-solving techniques such as 5 Why/ Fishbone Diagrams/8D methodologies.
  • Green Belt Certified (Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma)

 

 

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

MUST COMPLETE ALL OSHA REQUIRED TRAINING
