General Responsibility

 

The Manager, Automation & Facilities Maintenance will play a key role in supporting the global automation strategy by using their experience ideating and implementing innovative robotic automation solutions in support of our Global Automation Strategy. Responsibilities include building, testing, and implementing solutions that are productive and safe to operate as well as economical to purchase and maintain. This position reports to the site Sr. Manager, Distribution and is matrixed into the Global Automation team.  This position requires collaboration with site resources and relevant center Automation experts to support the management and execution of robotic / automation system deployment.  Responsibility is to assist sites in achieving their Automation productivity goals and to ensure all deployed equipment is compliant with corporate standards with the intent of improving safety, quality, and productivity, while mitigating labor risk to the company.

 

Position Detail - Responsibilities

  • Oversee the building and ensure facilities are maintained in proper condition through management of the facilities maintenance team
  • Responsible for developing and owning the preventative maintenance schedule and ensuring it is executed according to plan
  • Manage standard cascaded reviews to all maintenance team members on annual goals by establishing KPIs, leading and lagging indicators, and departmental BBNs
  • Oversee contractor services and bids for various maintenance needs including HVAC, janitorial, waste removal, recycling, and pest control
  • Monitor and maintain all facility equipment purchase orders, work orders and invoices
  • Coordinate the maintenance and repair of all facility automation and equipment including conveyors, material handling equipment (MHE), electrical, fire and security systems
  • Create, compile, and document requirements for maintenance of automated solutions, including hardware and software dependencies and requirements
  • Solicit quotations, qualify suppliers, and select equipment vendors
  • Review process equipment progress and manage delivery schedule
  • Act as liaison between design, distribution, and equipment vendors
  • Track and manage support hours from all automation vendors
  • Play a leadership role in the installation of robotic and automation solutions
  • Provide robot programming and programming support to site
  • Share best practices and successes, mentor and provide technical support to site resources
  • Track and manage labor hours for automation department
  • Manage overall automation and facilities parts spend (P&L) and relationships
  • Identify department priorities and allocate resources accordingly to meet business requirements and remain aligned with the Global Automation strategy
  • Drive TPM/LEAN/Six Sigma through autonomous and preventative maintenance on automation in the interest of continuous improvement and optimizing equipment availability and throughput
  • Regularly report to supply chain leadership on the performance of key automation KPIs and faults
  • Conduct GEMBA walks of the facility to ensure the facility’s needs are met and problems are identified

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Robotics Engineering, Controls, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-7 years of experience in a maintenance or automation leadership position
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to travel up to 10%


 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a fast-paced start-up environment
  • Background and knowledge in distribution automation applications such as robotics, autonomous movement (AGVs & AMRs), ASRS systems, machine tending, print & apply, palletization, case erecting, case packing, packaging, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of the various Engineering disciplines; Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechatronics
  • Core competency in robotics (industrial and collaborative), condition monitoring, EOAT design/support, safety systems (devices and controls), PLC/controls, Vision systems and simulation

Collaborative robot experience with associated peripheral equipment (vision systems, force gauges, end of arm tooling options, safety accommodations, etc.)

  • Experience with design and implementation of safety systems in robotic applications
  • Relevant project experience conducting safety risk assessments
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain automation and maintenance concepts well
  • Experience in the deployment of robotic automated solutions to distribution facilities

 

Climate

Must work effectively in a fast-paced team and matrixed warehouse environment. Must clearly communicate business goals so associates understand how they contribute to the organization's success. Priority of the warehouse is to meet existing customer distribution requirements as the environment transitions to a LEAN/TPM environment. An adaptive and flexible approach is a factor for success.
