General Responsibility:

The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining the integrity and longevity of the warehouse’s automation assets and components through the execution of daily, weekly and monthly PMs according to the preventative maintenance schedule published by the Maintenance Planner. This individual will work closely with the Maintenance Planner to understand daily, weekly, monthly and annual PM goals and requirements. Additionally, this individual will conduct analyses and observations to collect and evaluate data to mitigate component failures and sharpen preventative maintenance routines on existing or new automation within the facility.

 

Position Detail - Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, install, modify, upgrade and repair warehouse automation or electronic equipment including:
    • PLC
    • AC/DC circuits and drives
    • I/O devices
    • Conveyors
    • DMS Shuttles
    • AGVs
  • Change/exchange worn out parts, facilitate and install new components.
  • Execute major repairs and installations on automation; address open work orders.
  • Work within the CMMS and leverages CMMS (MicroMain) data to drive parts maintenance and analysis using Problem -> Cause -> Remedy methodology.
  • Monitor day-to-day alarms and faults in the CMMS and Visual I/O systems to optimize system uptime and rapidly address system or component failures.
  • Identify potential failure points during PM assessments and inspections.
  • Execute all PMs according to the PM maintenance schedule published by the maintenance planner.
  • Analyze data around mean times between faults, repetitive faults and develop mitigation plans.
  • Participate in break-down analyses (BDAs) by leveraging fault/parts failure data to drive automation system availability, uptime and throughput.
  • Install, calibrate and maintain instrumentation.
  • Assist maintenance leadership to ensures that PM’s/CM’s are executed efficiently, effectively and on schedule by auditing and optimizing process.
  • Assist maintenance planning in prioritizing planned maintenance and projects.
  • Help to develop SOP’s/checklists for PM and CM processes for best practices of maintaining warehouse electronic/PLC/automation equipment.
  • Highly involved and work closely with Facilities maintenance and participate in PM, troubleshooting, repair of plant production and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning safely and creates a safe work environment through continued use of lockout-tagout procedures and other safe maintenance protocols.
  • Help to train other maintenance personnel as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-year tech degree with 2- years of experience OR 5-years of experience in industrial plant or warehouse environment highly involved with electronic equipment (in lieu of education).
  • Demonstrated excellence in PMs, troubleshooting and repair of warehouse equipment including:
    • PLC
    • AC/DC drives and circuitry
    • Ability to create/write PLC programming for plant equipment.  Modify, enhance or change PLC programming as needed.
    • Network and IIoT devices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • Visual aptitude - must be able to see, with or without correction.
  • Communication - ability to communicate verbally or non-verbally.
  • Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach and grasp for varying periods of time.
  • Excellent people & communication skills, both written and verbal.  Must possess professional demeanor when communicating by e-mail, radio, telephone, meetings and personal.
  • Must freely share knowledge & skills with other personnel.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Must have skills installing, calibrating and maintain visions systems, robotic solutions.
  • Must understand be able to integrate, troubleshoot and maintain safety systems such as zone scanners, light curtains, conveyors, AGVs and safety PLC’s.
