The OPEX Engineer will work with the Distribution Center (DC) Leadership team to drive efficiency through labor planning, automation efficiency and implementing productivity projects. This will be accomplished within the framework of the ongoing implementation of PEAK (Newell's LEAN program) initiatives with a focus on meeting Gross Productivity targets. Responsibilities will also include continuous improvement, maintenance of the DC's Labor Management System, DC reporting and slotting while monitoring results of identified productivity initiatives. Areas of focus will include, receiving, replenishment, picking, packing, loading, labor standards, and automation.

 

Position Detail – Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with PEAK to ensure training documents and SOPs are updated accordingly for process improvements.
  • Work with the Operations Managers to identify and facilitate process improvements projects in alignment with the PEAK programs and business productivity goals.
  • Responsible for helping to create, communicate, implement, and drive process improvements for the DC slotting plan.
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment with respect to Safety Culture, Quality Policy, Customer Focus, and Continuous Improvement best practices.
  • Identify use cases and scenarios for new equipment and automation; develop and present business cases to site leadership on ideations.
  • Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
  • Act as a change agent for the facility; empowers employees through positive reinforcement in a team-oriented continuous improvement environment.
  • Maintain Labor Management System by creating standards, performing time studies, updating rates, and adding new processes.
  • Build reporting documents and tools that aid in solution adoption/implementation and tracking against key performance indicators with focus on automation, planning, and staffing.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis as required.
  • Working with IT integration teams on testing and roll out of WMS/WCS changes and implementation.
  • Provides guidance and training for efficient slotting of items for all areas of the building: Baby, HF Core, and HF DTC.
  • Provides in depth trouble shooting for DTC and Wholesale orders through WMS and WCS programs.
  • Partners with Locus to provide support and delivery of Locus bot changes, updates, and optimization.
  • Partner with Global and Site Automation teams to troubleshoot issues, critical failures, and resolve issues.
  • Act as back up to the OPEX Planners and support covering breaks for the logistics coordinators.
  • Trainer for the OPEX Planner.

 

 

Position Detail – Key Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering fields, Supply Chain or Business Administration or 3+ years of related experience in a Logistics or Manufacturing setting with experience in project management and process flow
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and supporting distribution or manufacturing disciplines, such as, Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen
  • Experience with various distribution technologies, including, labor management, automation, and
  • warehouse management systems.
  • Superior analytical and process improvement skills.
  • Strong understanding of logistic process flows and proven ability to identify and correct bottlenecks/constraints in a fast-paced logistics environment.
  • Strong PC skills including Windows, Word, Excel, Access and SPC applications.
  • Proficient with computer and information technology (preferred: PKMS, SAP, Manhattan Associates LMS) and aptitude to learn new applications
  • Excellent verbal, written and technical communication skills effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Accountable, self-directed, analytical, disciplined, hands-on, with strong inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and analyze reporting Metrics, Productivity Reporting, as well as analyzing
  • Flexible in priorities and ever-changing environment
