The Transportation Analyst provides analytical and operational support to the OPEX Transportation Manager and the broader North America Transportation team. This role is responsible for analyzing freight data across all transportation modes, including TL, LTL, parcel, and distribution, to identify cost savings opportunities, track performance against KPIs, and support continuous improvement initiatives that drive efficiency across the Newell Brands outbound network.Working closely with the Transportation Manager, Procurement, Warehousing, Customer Service, and Finance, the Analyst contributes to Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), carrier scorecards, SONO pipeline projects, and productivity reporting that support the organization's annual transportation and distribution goals.
Key Responsibilities
Freight Analytics & Performance Reporting
- Analyze transportation spend, shipment volume, cube, and rate data across all modes (TL, LTL, parcel) to identify cost drivers and efficiency opportunities.
- Develop and maintain reporting on key freight KPIs including T% of sales, cost per hundredweight, OON (out-of-network) freight, TL/LTL mix, and carrier on-time performance.
- Support the OPEX Transportation Manager in preparing Monthly Business Review (MBR) materials, tracking performance against productivity goals, and communicating results to leadership.
- Reconcile transportation data across systems (TMS, Power BI, FPBI exports, SAP) to ensure accuracy and consistency across all reporting.
- Build and maintain dashboards and scorecards that provide clear visibility to freight performance for internal stakeholders.
Network & Distribution Optimization Support
- Support identification and quantification of freight savings opportunities across customers, business units, and distribution centers.
- Analyze distribution and transportation routes, carrier performance, and mode mix to identify areas for consolidation, optimization, and cost reduction.
- Assist in evaluating freight terms conversions (prepaid to collect), routing guide compliance, and mode shift opportunities with supporting financial analysis.
- Contribute analytical support to active SONO (Sustainable Outbound Network Optimization) pipeline projects and business cases.
- Perform scenario modeling to evaluate cost and service impact of proposed network or distribution changes.
Productivity & Continuous Improvement
- Support the development and tracking of annual productivity goals for transportation and distribution functions in alignment with organizational objectives.
- Assist in identifying and documenting process improvement opportunities that reduce waste and enhance operational efficiency.
- Contribute to carrier RFP preparation and analysis, including data compilation, provider comparisons, and implementation tracking.
- Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in transportation and logistics to support innovation recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to incorporate AI, automation, and digital tools into recurring transportation workflows to reduce manual effort, improve speed to insight, and enhance productivity across reporting and operational processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Procurement, Warehousing, Customer Service, and Finance to coordinate transportation activities and ensure seamless operations.
- Provide analytical support, technical information, and recommendations to internal stakeholders on domestic freight requirements.
- Respond to ad hoc data requests from the Transportation Manager and cross-functional partners in a timely and accurate manner.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
- 2–4 years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain analytics, or a related operations or finance role.
- Familiarity with multiple modes of transportation (TL, LTL, parcel, ocean, air) and core transportation management concepts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large datasets and translate data into actionable insights.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data modeling, VLOOKUP); experience with Power BI, TMS platforms, or SAP preferred.
- Familiarity with transportation regulations, compliance standards (DOT, HOS), and industry best practices.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to maintain data accuracy and integrity across complex reporting environments.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with Python, SQL, or other data tools is a plus.
- Less than 25% travel.
Success Measures
- Accuracy, timeliness, and usability of transportation and distribution reporting and analytics deliverables.
- Contribution to identification and quantification of freight savings opportunities aligned with annual productivity goals.
- Quality and reliability of data reconciliation across TMS, Power BI, SAP, and FPBI systems.
- Effective support of MBR preparation and transportation KPI tracking for the OPEX Transportation Manager.
- Stakeholder confidence in transportation data and analysis provided for decision-making.
- Meaningful contribution to active SONO pipeline projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated growth in freight analytics capabilities, regulatory knowledge, and cross-functional business acumen.
