Job Summary
The Retail Buyer is responsible for planning, purchasing, pricing, merchandising, and marketing for assigned lines of business, while maximizing profit and sales. They will own select categories and will be responsible for the growth and profitability of their categories. The Retail Buyer will report directly to the Director of Merchandising and Operations.
Job Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Curate a competitive merchandise assortment that is customer focused and monitor and adjust sales plan.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and competition.
- Secure and analyze quotations; negotiate pricing and terms with vendors. Select vendors with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness.
- Analyze sales history for trends and sales performance; run and analyze reports to create actionable recommendations to the assortment.
- Monitor and track weekly sales and objectives and report out hindsight.
- Maintain margins and open to buy plans for assigned categories.
- Manage vendor relationships that include new product lines, timely deliveries, return to vendors and vendor allowances.
- Attend Trade Shows to research new product lines and trends.
- Manage promotional activity and coordinate event activities with Event Manager.
- Work Closely with store merchandising/visual teams and marketing teams to implement engaging ways to feature products in store.
- Manage and develop direct reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, retail or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience as a retail buyer.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with vendors and different company teams.
- Be able to negotiate with vendors and build strong relationships with suppliers.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, SAP experience a plus.
- Have knowledge of retail trends, products and suppliers.
- Must have strong interactive communication skills, organizational and proven leadership skills.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate others, proactive, decisive, and demonstrate a keen sense of urgency.
- Ability to solve multiple problems creatively.
- Outstanding Customer Focus Skills; customer first, ethical, positive/productive relationships
- Hybrid Role, 3 days in office at Yankee Candle Village in South Deerfield, Ma
