The Manager of Merchandising is accountable for supporting the Director of Merchandising in leading the product strategy for Newell Brands Technical Apparel (NBTA), a division of Newell Brands (NYSE: NWL), a globally-recognized designer, developer, marketer and retailer of high-performance technical apparel and equipment with a portfolio of brands that includes Marmot® and ExOfficio®.

With a strong understanding of Marmot and Exofficio brands DNA and the product vision the Manager of Merchandising actions on product strategy across all channels to meet consumer needs and achieve business goals.  This position collaborates cross-functionally with marketing, design, technical design, sourcing, materials, sales and planning teams to achieve both seasonal and long-term business growth goals within the outerwear space.  You are results-driven with an entrepreneurial attitude and an instinct to identify and champion market and consumer opportunities. Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage assistant level Merchandisers
  • Drive competitive outerwear landscape analysis to ensure seasonal and long-term product strategies are aligned with market and consumer trends
  • Align seasonal merchandising/product line strategy with the current and long-term vision of the brand and product
  • Achieve increased style/sku productivity metrics while optimizing for category revenue and growth initiatives
  • Actively manages the professional development of direct reports.  Establish goals and performance metrics for the merchandising function and conduct performance reviews for direct reports, address performance matters effectively and timely
  • Identify opportunities to drive margin improvement
  • Assists in the creation of a product development strategy based on financial goals, brand objectives and consumer insights. Builds both seasonal and long-term merchandising strategies that leverage brand strengths and new opportunities for growth. 
  • Leverages selling data and other inputs to optimize collection offering and drive efficiency within the supply chain.  Works closely with sourcing and technical design to ensure seasonal and long-term margin targets are achieved.
  • Closely monitors industry landscape and sell through data to understand and predict trends in the business.  Uses understanding of competitor market positions to take advantages of opportunities and minimize risk to the business.
  • Leads team in support of Sales and Marketing on product and brand launches. Ensures all product information necessary for seasonal product launches is accurate, on-time and delivered to the responsible recipients.  
  • Leads presentations to sales team and major retailers. Solicits feedback to incorporate into future product development.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • University or four-year college degree in merchandising or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in merchandising/product management preferably in the outdoor industry
  • Practical knowledge of related functions such as product development, design, textiles, production, sales and marketing
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and comfortable in foreign work environments
  • Ability to manage and lead change
  • Confident and influential presentation and communication skills
  • Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration, interpersonal influence, and teamwork skills
  • Results orientation while exhibiting great creativity, energy, and resourcefulness
  • Strong project planning, organizational and time management skills and a high level of initiative
  • Fast, efficient, nimble. Experience working in a shifting and collaborative environment with a great deal of constructive feedback and input

The CA base pay range for this position is from $133,675 to $163,425. Salary will be based on prior experience related to the skills required for this position”.
