Position Description

As a model shop technician, you will work with teams located in the Exton, Atlanta and Morgan falls facilities the Morgan falls facility is Newell’s R&D technology center assembled for the product development testing prototyping and compliance of our products. A portion of this space provides a work environment for designers and engineers to collaborate with you a member of the prototyping team.

This person will ultimately help create prototype models to help improve the lives of our customers in this role you will utilize the equipment and processes available as well as your imagination and skills to create 1:1 scale working models in a fast-paced environment among design and engineering teams. Your input and ideas are encouraged to assist in the process.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Produce varying levels of models from Frankenstein to looks like working models.
  • provide proper care and maintenance of tools equipment and facilities including general housekeeping.
  • Works from Creo, SolidWorks, PDF CAD files and complex prints sketches along with verbal direction to fabricate machine parts, bent tubing, metal brackets and potential use of rapid prototyping equipment.
  • Design plan and execute the sequences of necessary operations to build and fabricate said needed parts.
  • Provide input to designers and engineers on part configuration with alternative solutions for reduction of manufacturing complexity and tooling.
  • Mentor and train with experienced model makers and technicians to learn and educate yourself on understanding equipment, tooling, and processes to help guide you through the design experience.
  • Responsible for prompt submission of expense reporting and adherence to purchasing policies if applicable.

Education requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with rapid prototyping machines and software a plus
  • Machining background milling machines and lathes
  • Manual tube bending processes.

 

Work experience requirements:

  • Minimum five years’ experience
  • Mechanically inclined with strong esthetic sensitivity.
  • Ability to adapt and improvise in certain situations.
  • Ability to work in team environments.
  • Self-motivated and flexible willing to learn new things.
  • Proven ability to drive multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently towards project goals and timelines.
  • Able to travel occasionally if needed.

 

Technical Experience Requirements:

  • Manual tube bending experience and familiarity with benders.
  • Experience Manual Milling and Turning equipment.
  • Ability to machine to the level of tolerance required by company products and level of positioning.
  • Mig welding experience needed, Tig welding a big plus.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret blueprints / PDF drawings.
  • Requires extensive and practical knowledge of different materials and their workability, such as metal tubing, plastics, urethanes and their uses.
  • Rapid prototyping experience and printer usage a plus but not necessary.
  • Experience with finishing, assembly, priming and painting is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of shop mathematics including applicable trigonometry.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Ability and willingness to commit to continuous learning and to keep up with changing technologies in the field of model/mold making.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.
  • MS Office
  • Adobe Creative Suite, Solid works / Pro E a plus not required.
