Merchandising Manager (Home Fragrance)
Primary Location: Norwalk, CT or South Deerfield, MA
Hybrid role requiring 3 days per week on-site, Norwalk, CT or South Deerfield, MA
Frequent travel required to office location in South Deerfield, MA
Job Summary
The Merchandising Manager is responsible for developing and executing merchandising strategies that drive sales, elevates the guest experience, and supports the home fragrance business objectives. This role leads category level merchandising execution, ensuring assortments are presented in a compelling, consumer focused manner across brick-and-mortar locations and online while maintaining brand standards and visual consistency.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Buying & Merchandising within the Home Fragrance Business unit, this role thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and requires strong analytical skills, creative merchandising instincts, and disciplined execution. The Merchandising Manager partners closely with Global Brand, Buying, Planning, Allocation, Visual, Marketing, and Store Operations teams to ensure product flow, presentation, and promotional execution align with financial plans and seasonal strategies. This role requires a strong balance of creative merchandising vision, analytical insight, and operational excellence.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Own and execute merchandising strategies that support category and store-level sales, margin, and inventory productivity goals.
- Translate assortment strategies into effective in-store merchandising plans that reflect seasonal direction, consumer insights, and brand standards.
- Partner closely with Planning and Allocation teams to align merchandising execution with inventory flow, depth, and timing.
- Collaborate with Buying to ensure assortments are positioned effectively to maximize sell-through and customer engagement.
- Collaborate with Global Brand and support upcoming collections, identify opportunities for reintroducing successful past assortments, and optimize product strategies based on consumer demand and performance.
- Develop and maintain merchandising calendars, floor sets, and product placement guides
- Support promotional calendars
- Analyze sales performance, sell-through, and consumer behavior to identify trends, risks, and opportunities; recommend merchandising adjustments as needed.
- Lead and execute seasonal transitions, floor resets, and promotional launches, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Partner with Visual Merchandising and Marketing teams to deliver cohesive storytelling and compelling product presentations.
- Ensure consistent execution of merchandising standards across the store; conduct regular walkthroughs and provide actionable feedback.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve the merchandising process.
- Support store leadership and operations teams with clear communication, training, and merchandising direction.
- Prepare and present merchandising recaps, insights, and recommendations to leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Retail Management, Marketing or a related field.
- 5+ years of retail merchandising experience, preferably in a specialty or multi-category retail environment.
- Proven experience executing merchandising strategies that drive sales and enhance guest experience.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and apply insights to decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally, particularly with Planning, Allocation, Buying, Visual, and Store Operations teams.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Proven success working in a fast-paced environment and ability to solve problems creatively.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization.
- Consumer focused mindset with a strong understanding of retail trends and consumer behavior.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, proactive, and decisive with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP or similar retail ERP systems preferred.
- Commitment to ethical business practices and positive working relationships.
The Massachusetts and Connecticut base pay range for this position is from 138,400 to $169,200. Salary will be based on prior experience related to the skills required for this position.
