Summary: Performs Preventive Maintenance, repairs and assists with the installation of all HVAC related equipment at the Wichita, Kansas Newell Brands complex including all exhaust fans, heaters, make-up air, and air conditioning units.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Observes all Safety policies and procedures as outlined within Newell Brands’ Safety Excellence and Leadership (SEAL) program.
  • Drive success through the Company’s Planning, Engagement, Awareness and Knowledge (PEAK) continuous improvement program.
  • Personally responsible for upholding the Newell Brands Values and the Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workstation to comply with Newell Brands’ Housekeeping standards.
  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures according to PM program on all HVAC Equipment.
  • Completes preventive maintenance documentation and enters information in the computer for PM program and/or DM.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems associated with HVAC equipment.
  • Maintain, start-up, audit, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair, heating and cooling systems.
  • Must have a strong understanding of mechanical components and how they work in conjunction with electrical associated with HVAC.
  • Completes required reports and other documentation on assigned work and/or inspections.
  • Must have the ability to understand, learn and implement correct lubrication processes. 
  • Must have the ability to determine and apply the right lubricants for equipment.
  • Must keep workstation clean and orderly.
  • Observe all safety rules.
  • Support team objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Additional Responsibilities / Cross-Functional Support:
While this position is primarily focused on HVAC systems, the Facilities HVAC Technician is expected to support general facility maintenance activities as business needs require. This may include assisting with basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or building-related repairs, as well as supporting facility infrastructure projects and preventative maintenance tasks outside of HVAC equipment. The technician must be willing to apply transferable skills to support overall facility reliability and operational needs.

 

Flexibility & Team Support Expectations:
This role operates within a team-based maintenance environment where priorities may shift based on production requirements, safety considerations, or facility needs. The HVAC Technician is expected to demonstrate flexibility by supporting other maintenance personnel, responding to urgent facility issues, and contributing to cross-functional problem solving. A strong team mindset, adaptability, and willingness to perform a variety of maintenance tasks are essential to ensure continuity of operations and alignment with company objectives.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) a plus. Formal HVAC training and previous experience preferred. EPA Section 608 HVAC Certification required. Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions presented in English.

 

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, engineers and co-workers.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and ability to pass tests.

Ability to climb ladders, stairs and work in high places. A large portion of work for this position will be completed outside on the roof.
