2ND SHIFT - Mon-Fri, 3p-11:30p

Summary: The Plastics Lead oversees daily production activities by troubleshooting equipment issues, maintaining quality and safety standards, and coordinating work assignments to support efficient operations. This role provides on‑the‑job guidance to employees, ensuring smooth workflow, proper material availability, and adherence to company policies and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Observes all Safety policies and procedures as outlined within Newell Brands’ Safety Excellence and Leadership (SEAL) program.
  • Drive success through the Company’s Planning, Engagement, Awareness and Knowledge (PEAK) continuous improvement program and have a working knowledge of DMAIC.
  • Personally responsible for upholding the Newell Brands Values and the Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workstation for compliance with Newell Brands’ Housekeeping standards.
  • Troubleshooting machines and equipment to maintain smooth flow of production, assists with production problems by making any necessary adjustments, notifying management of irregular conditions such as nonobservance of standard procedures, equipment failures and production slowdowns
  • Instructs employees on the job as necessary, plan and issue work assignments as instructed by supervision to maintain department production schedules
  • Ensure needed parts and supplies are readily available for production, initiate requisitions for materials and supplies as necessary
  • Monitors equipment and notifies management of any repairs needed
  • Maintains quality standards by ensuring work performed meets required standards and that all parts received meet quality standards, notifies appropriate supervisor if parts received are sub-standard; performs own rework when necessary
  • Observes all safety and security procedures as required, ensures that all equipment and materials are used according to manufacturing specifications
  • Responsible for machine output impacting OEE while adhering to quality and performance expectations
  • Complete product setup, including molds, fixtures, plugs, automation, color, and component changes as required
  • Properly use and identify hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • A working knowledge of cylinders, pneumatic valves, vacuum brake components, core pins, blow needles, filters, and sensors for replacement diagnosis
  • The ability to tighten knockouts, replace water lines, replace air lines, valves, and fittings.
  • Manage and maintain the material management system. and perform required preventative maintenance
  • Utilize Micro Main to document daily work and parts consumed from MRO.
  • Read and follow production notes for sets, component and color changes
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participates in fire mitigation training, including fire prevention and fire extinguisher training
  • Complete all required documentation
  • Troubleshoots to maintain smooth flow of production or product shipments, instruct employees on the job as necessary
  • Plans and issues work assignments as instructed by supervision to maintain department schedules
  • Prioritize job assignments and machine schedules based on production needs
  • Reports on irregular conditions such as non-observance of standard procedures, equipment failures and production slowdowns
  • Initiates requisitions for materials and supplies
  • Reports production issues needing maintenance to management
  • Poses no direct threat to the health or safety of self or others or to company property
  • Requires regular attendance to perform essential elements as listed above between the assigned start and end times for work 
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to work a weekend schedule
  • Must be able to work overtime as requested
  • Accountable for first pass yield (line returns)
  • Lead training and cross-training initiatives to develop team members and ensure adequate coverage across operations

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly provides instruction for Coleman employees and contingent workforce employees.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Microsoft Excel and Word.

 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, stand, walk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and arms to assemble and move parts. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Minimum vision of 20/40 is required to perform the job.

 

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a variety of moving mechanical equipment.  Employees may be exposed to extreme temperature variations in the plant depending on the season.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
