Job Summary: 

We are seeking a skilled Automation & Controls Technician to join our Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing machinery commissioning, design, disassembly, and engineering tasks, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities. This role requires a focus on safety, strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform routine and advanced maintenance tasks on advanced automation equipment (e.g. robots, etc.) 

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, controls, robotics, issues. 

  • Conduct inspections to recommend preventative maintenance solutions, prevent breakdowns. 

  • Maintain accurate records of engineering activities and repairs, coordinate and execute projects. 

  • Collaborate with other team members to repair, design, build, maintain equipment. 

  • Support PEAK Continuous Improvement Activities  

  • Follow site policies and industry standard safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. 

  • Other items as directed by management 

 

Required Skills: 

  • Fabrication of mechanical and electrical systems, assembly, troubleshooting of automation equipment, including hydraulic and electromechanical systems, wiring of electrical cabinets (24VDC to 480VAC). 

  • Beginner to Advanced in PLC ladder logic, Safety PLCs, and SCADA/HMI platforms (Ignition, PanelView). 

  • Beginner to Advanced in Robotics, Installation, programming, and maintenance of FANUC and STAR robots, including EOAT design, basic maintenance, and safety zone configuration. 

  • Preventive Maintenance procedure development, critical equipment design. 

  • Creation and interpretation of CAD drawings, BOMs, electrical schematics, and equipment specifications. 

  • Project Management basics, budget keeping, component procurement, vendor selection, field proposals, organize project documentation. 

  • Conduct risk assessments in areas of expertise, lead safety reviews, and promote a culture of safety across mechanical and electrical domains. 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Welding and Machining experience, CNC (g-code, operation), 3D-Printing, sheet-metal forming 

  • Novice to Proficient in 2D, 3D CAD (i.e. Solidworks, CATIA, CREO, AutoCAD, DraftSight) 

  • Network architecture design, switch configuration, device integration (PLC, HMI, sensors), and Ignition/SQL/PowerBI fundamentals, Ethernet Cable terminations, running wire. 

  • FANUC Certification (HandlingTool, CRX Collaborative, ROBOGuide) 

  • Commissioning, Factory/Site Acceptance (FAT/SAT) Testing 

  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Six Sigma, PEAK, Kaizen 

  • Advanced Project Management (Schedule Management, CapEx) 

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or trade school degree preferred. 

  • 2-10 years prior experience as Maintenance Technician, Engineering Technician, or similar role. 

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, mechatronic systems. 

  • Ability to read and write technical manuals and schematics. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high flex environment. 

  • Strong communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking basic English. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. 

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods. 

  • Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor and indoor settings.
