The Manufacturing Process Engineer will be responsible for identifying opportunities to improve our manufacturing processes and implementing appropriate improvements to the manufacturing process. The position will require approximately 50% of the engineer’s time spent in the manufacturing environment evaluating and troubleshooting key issues to drive performance.
Responsibilities:
- The position has primary responsibility to drive the continuous improvement and manufacturing KPIs at the Winchester, VA sites.
- Daily work with operations group: Troubleshooting manufacturing issues, sampling new and existing molds, documenting process and quality control.
- Leading a team of engineering technicians on troubleshooting. Improving mold design and production output.
- Working with engineering group: Leading and assisting in projects that drive improvement in automation, capacity, productivity, cost savings measures, packaging and other efforts related to lean manufacturing.
- Support productivity project leaders in measuring performance against customer requirements and executing improvement projects for process improvement using Six Sigma methodology, analysis of data, preparing reports and implementing process mapping.
- Makes implementation and results a top priority and regularly updates the plant’s implementation plan.
- Communicates the status of improvement efforts to both the plant management and other engineering resources throughout the division. Provides documentation of results and benefits achieved.
- Shares “best practice” methods and ideas across plants/divisions.
Qualifications:
- BCHE, BSME, BSIE or relevant technical BS Degree.
- Working understanding of injection molding machines and processing.
- Working knowledge of six sigma tools and methodology, strong quantitative, analytical and process redesign skills, along with the excellent project management skills are required.
- Excellent communication skills to lead and support empowered employees in a team environment.
- Good presentation skills to effectively share success and ideas.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
- High energy, self-motivated, enthusiastic, well organized.
- Able to work in a team environment.
Skills:
- Understanding of Structural Foam molding process.
- Working Understanding of plastics processing including HDPE, PP, ABS, Nylon, PC.
- Demonstrated ability to not only use Six Sigma and Lean Principles such as DMAIC, SPC, Cpk, GR&R, Control Plans, DOE, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Visual Factory, TPM, Kaizen, JIT, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, SMED as well as other CI Process tools.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Standing and walking approximately 90(ninety) percent of work time.
- Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice.
- Typical plant/manufacturing environment with concrete floors and moving equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
